Americans spend billions of dollars on acupuncture every year for one simple reason. It works. A majority of our patients have tried other forms of medicine and therapy before coming to us, with no improvement in their condition. As a last resort they come to us – and they get better. Word spreads. Their family and friends start trying acupuncture, with similar good results. A quick look at our Google Reviews will confirm this message. This article will take a look at acupuncture explained – how it works and how it can help you.
The Nuts and Bolts of Acupuncture
The foundations of acupuncture are thousands of years old. We have an ancient text from the year 200AD called the Huang Di Nei Jing that lays out all the base line theories of Chinese medicine. We are still using these guiding principals. They explain how our bodies work, how to overcome disease and how to resolve pain.
Over the past two thousand years acupuncture has been time tested. How do we know that a certain acupuncture point relieves neck pain? Because it’s been used effectively for 2500 years. With no side effects! This holds true for conditions ranging from neck pain to back pain, migraines to insomnia, depression to plantar fasciitis.
Acupuncture Explained
A key principle of Chinese medicine is that disease and pain come from imbalances in the body. We are healthy when our organs and channels are functioning in a balanced way. Alternatively, we become susceptible to disease, injury and chronic pain when they are not.
The concept of balanced organs is a bit foreign to us here in the West. In Chinese medicine, each major organ in the body has it’s own homeostatis. Some organs may be weak (deficient) while others may be too strong (excess). Excess patterns can negatively affect neighboring organs and cause them to weaken. Similarly, channels (which are pathways in the body) can become blocked, leading to health issues.
The Chinese medicine practitioner is able to diagnose the imbalances, and use acupuncture to correct them. And you, the patient, will experience this healing process as it unfolds. With each treatment, you will become more and more balanced, and you will see your symptoms become less and less severe. Your migraines will ease, insomnia lessen, hot flashes reduce. Whatever issue you were having before will be noticeably reduced and even resolved.
