Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep are symptoms resulting from imbalances in the body. Once we identify and correct those imbalances, the symptoms resolve themselves. In Chinese medicine, we recognize various triggers for different types of insomnia:
- Difficulty falling asleep typically points to heart or liver blood deficiency.
- Waking during the night with difficulty falling back to sleep points to either kidney yin deficiency or liver qi stagnation.
The Raleigh Acupuncture insomnia treatment is custom-designed to address your specific imbalances. Once corrected, your sleep will improve.
Customized Treatments
Ten people coming to us suffering from insomnia may have ten different root causes responsible for their sleep troubles. Depending on their particular imbalance, we treat them in ten different ways. Our job as Chinese medicine practitioners is to identify their specific imbalance and treat it accordingly.
Some people can’t sleep because they have ANXIETY. Others because they have DEPRESSION. Still others struggle with sleep because they have too much STRESS in their life. No matter your situation, acupuncture can help.
Acupuncture Relieves Insomnia
When you first come in, we will conduct a full intake exam. We ask you many questions about your health, feel your pulse, and look at your tongue. This process identifies your root imbalances in preparation for treatment.
You receive a complete Raleigh Acupuncture insomnia treatment during this first visit. All needles are sterile, single-use, and hair-thin. The acupuncture points we select will address the imbalances responsible for your insomnia. The treatments are relaxing – many of our patients fall asleep during their sessions. Afterward, you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated.
Recent Insomnia Case
We recently had a 34-year-old man come to the clinic complaining of severe insomnia – he fell asleep fine but woke every morning at 2:00 am. It took hours for him to fall back asleep, and some nights he could not fall back at all. Ambien used to help, but now even medication would not give him an uninterrupted night’s sleep. Finally, he was at his wit’s ends and came to acupuncture searching for help.
His examination revealed several imbalances:
He said he was stressed and overworked when we asked about his emotions. His job was demanding and relentless, leaving him feeling distressed most of the time.
He recently broke up with his long-term girlfriend and was distraught.
His tongue had rough edges, and his pulse was strong and wiry.
These signs and symptoms pointed to a pattern imbalance of Liver Qi stagnation, a common cause for waking in the middle of the night.
His treatment included the following acupoints: LV3, LI4, Si shen cong, Yintang, CV12, and ear points Shen Men and Insomnia. He was amazed to experience a whole night of uninterrupted sleep following his first treatment. It took only four sessions to resolve his insomnia completely. In addition, his stress levels decreased, and his mood improved significantly.
