The Raleigh Acupuncture chronic rhinitis treatment is a safe, highly effective way to resolve chronic nasal congestion, runny nose, and sinus pressure. We treat chronic rhinitis all the time in our clinic with excellent results. What is chronic rhinitis? It’s a non-allergic runny nose and postnasal drip. People with this condition either take medications to control the drip or live with their noses running all the time.

How It Works
Chronic runny nose and accompanying postnasal drip result from a weakness in a person’s Lung and Spleen function. These organs are not their Western anatomical lungs and spleen. Instead, they are the organs that Chinese medicine traditionally recognizes as responsible for symptoms involving runny noses.
This distinction is important because once we identify the “organs” responsible for the condition, we can use acupuncture points to heal them. Specific acupuncture points on the body strengthen the Lungs and Spleen, reducing the symptoms associated with chronic rhinitis.
The Details
We don’t often think about digestion when we think of nasal congestion. But in Chinese medicine, phlegm accumulation is often the result of weak spleen and stomach Qi (energy). That’s because the spleen and stomach oversee water metabolism in the body, and weakness leads to dampness and phlegm accumulation.
The lungs also play an essential role in managing nasal congestion. Think about when you breathe in air from the nose. Where does it do? Directly to the lungs. We recognize the lungs as playing a significant role in breathing and nasal function in Chinese medicine. Strong lung qi is essential for clear nasal passages, free from phlegm accumulation.
From this perspective, you can see that the spleen, stomach, and lungs play an essential role in alleviating chronic rhinitis and other nasal conditions like sinusitis and sinus infections.
Acupuncture Resolves Chronic Rhinitis
Recently a patient came to our clinic diagnosed with chronic rhinitis. His nose was constantly running, and he had postnasal drip all the time, leading to sore throats and a tickle cough. In addition, his pulse was weak in the Spleen position, and his tongue had scallops and a thick white coating. These signs are a classic indication of Spleen Qi deficiency.
His treatments focused on strengthening Spleen Qi and transforming damp accumulation in the head. He responded well – his nose was fifty percent less congested within three treatments, and his drip was gone after six sessions. So too was his sore throat and tickle cough. Treating chronic rhinitis at the root level brings long-term relief of symptoms, as this case demonstrated.
What To Expect
All needles are sterile, single-use, and hair-thin. Insertions are painless, and treatments relaxing – many of our patients fall asleep during their sessions. Afterward, you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Your symptoms will gradually reduce with each treatment.

What our Clients are Saying
Very nice doctor in this acupuncture office, and very skillful. She helped my constant dripping nose. It was like a faucet. Now it’s like a normal nose again. What a relief. I lived with this for five years. Now it’s better. I am so happy!!!
My doctors had given me the diagnosis non-allergic chronic rhinitis. No medications would help the constant runny and itchy nose and scratchy throat from post nasal drip. I had it year round and was driving me crazy. I read online that acupuncture could treat it, and went in cautiously optimistic. Very glad I did. The doctor at Raleigh Acupuncture knew exactly what to do to rid my body of this condition. Amazing! I recommend this practice for anyone who has chronic rhinitis.
Raleigh Acupuncture cured my chronic runny nose. I’m very grateful, as I was resigned to living with it forever. It was not a life or death situation, but definitely drained my energy and was very inconvenient. Been six months and still has not returned. Thank you!
