Is Acupuncture Right For You?
Are you in your first trimester of pregnancy? Do you feel nauseous ALL THE TIME, wondering why they call it “morning” sickness instead of “all the time” sickness? Has your doctor suggested medications that you don’t want to take? If you answered Yes to these questions, it’s time to try acupuncture.
Here are some quick facts about morning sickness:
- Nausea typically continues throughout the day, not just in the morning.
- Morning sickness usually starts around week 6 of pregnancy and ends on its own around week 13.
- Acupuncture can resolve morning sickness at any time, usually within 3 to 6 treatments.
How Acupuncture Works
Chinese medicine has a unique explanation for why pregnant women suffer from nausea and vomiting in the first trimester. We call it Rebellious Stomach Qi.
The majority of stomach energy, by design, travels downward. When we eat food, the stomach creates two substances, energy and excess. Energy travels upward to the lungs and is combined with air to create Qi (our life force). The excess travels down to the intestines, absorbing more nutrients before being excreted.
Early pregnancy confuses the stomach. The stomach senses the growing fetus as blocking its downward path. So, as a protective mechanism, the stomach directs both its energy and excess upward, trying to accommodate its new neighbor. This upward flow manifests as nausea and, in some cases, vomiting.
The Raleigh Acupuncture morning sickness treatment focuses on the stomach, helping it acclimate to the fetus. Acupuncture “harmonizes” the stomach, allowing it to resume its descending function. The treatment works quickly and effectively. Nausea and vomiting cease once the stomach has “accepted” the fetus.
Acupuncture Relieves Morning Sickness
Acupuncture is all about bringing the body back into balance. Unfortunately, events in life push our bodies out of harmony, resulting in pain and discomfort. Our job as practitioners is to determine the imbalance and use acupuncture to correct it. When we do, the pain and discomfort ease or resolve.
All needles are sterile, single-use, and hair-thin. The sessions are relaxing – many of our patients fall asleep during their sessions. Afterward, you will feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
Recent Morning Sickness Case
A 32-year-old woman came to our clinic suffering from severe nausea. She was seven weeks pregnant, and her doctor told her she had a bad case of morning sickness. The doctor prescribed an anti-nausea medication, but it was not helping.
After just one acupuncture session, her nausea eased 30 percent. It took just three more sessions to resolve her nausea for good. She had stopped taking the medication after the first treatment and never had to retake it.

What our Clients are Saying
Single best thing for morning sickness!! I’ve had four kids and used acupuncture every time. This practice is the best! They don’t drag out treatments. They get you better fast.
My first pregnancy went so easy. So I was surprised when I got so nauseous with my second one. Every smell made me sick and I didn’t want to eat anything. My mom found Raleigh Acupuncture. The practitioner told me it generally took 3 to 6 treatments to stop the nausea. She was right. After 6 treatments I wasn’t nauseous anymore and could eat again without trouble. I’m very pleased and would recommend them to any pregnant woman suffering from nausea.
When I was pregnant 6 weeks I got terrible nausea and vomiting. I could not hold anything down. I started losing weight after two weeks and my doctor put me on medications. But I was still vomiting every day and felt awful. I found Raleigh Acupuncture and they treated me three times. It totally stopped the nausea and vomiting. I stopped my medications, and the rest of my pregnancy had no problems. They said this was an easy thing to treat. I wish I had known about it from the beginning of my pregnancy.
