Allergies Case Study

A 42 year old man came to the office complaining of severe seasonal allergies. Every spring he developed itchy eyes, sneezing, constant runny nose and congestion in his whole head. The symptoms typically lasted for two months before easing. This allergies case study describes how we treated him and how acupuncture benefited his condition.

Allergies Case Study

In the past our patient had used over-the-counter medicines, but didn’t like the side effects. So for the past few years he had simply suffered through the symptoms, carrying a box of tissues around with him. He was not interested in allergy shots either.

Acupuncture for Allergies

Chinese medicine has a concept called Wei Qi, also knows as Defensive Qi. Our bodies have a defense system to protect us from viruses, bacteria and other diseases. People with weakened Wei Qi are more susceptible to colds and flu, and also to allergies. In addition, each of our organs has it’s own Qi, or energy. The Lung Qi is important for preventing severe allergic reactions.

The Treatment

We treated this patient to boost his Wei Qi and Lung Qi. First, he received acupuncture points specifically designed to strengthen these functions. This was accomplished by selecting a combination of the following acupuncture points: Li4, Li11, ST36, LU9, LU7, BL13, BL43, BL20.

Second, local points were used to address his symptoms of itchy eyes, runny nose and sneezing: Li20, GV23, YinTang, BL2.

Third, we prescribed Chinese herbal medicine to boost Wei Qi and ease his symptoms.

The Results

Within the first 4 treatments our patient had a 50% reduction of symptoms. After 3 more treatments he was 90% better. This allergies case study result is typical. Most patients improve quickly.

What To Expect

All needles are sterile, single-use and hair thin. You will hardly feel them. Treatments are relaxing. Our allergy patient often fell asleep during his sessions. The Chinese herbs are natural and safe. They have no negative side effects.

What our Clients are Saying

My allergies got very bad ever since I moved to Raleigh. I don’t like how the medicines make me feel. So I tried acupuncture. The effect was excellent. My allergies got 90% better. I also like the Chinese pills. I take them with me when I travel. They’re not kidding about relaxing treatments. I fall asleep every time I got a session.

Enrique M

My wife made me try acupuncture because she was sick and tired of me complaining about my allergies every summer. Pine pollen made my nose run like a faucet. The pills from the doctor didn’t work so I figured it was worth a try. What a difference the acupuncture made. If you are allergic to pine pollen you’ve got to try this stuff. My staff at Raleigh Acupuncture even put up with my sense of humor. You can’t beat that.

Timothy R

Acupuncture really helped my seasonal allergies. I’m grateful to Raleigh Acupuncture for helping me. Every year from spring through the fall I had terrible allergies. Now after their treatment I hardly have them at all. Thank you!
