The Problem
Interstitial cystitis is a chronic health condition causing bladder and urination discomfort. It’s kind of like living with a urinary tract infection all the time – constant pain and discomfort. This condition affects mostly women, making them feel the urgency to urinate, and creating a burning, painful sensation in the low abdomen, bladder and urethra.
This is NOT a fun condition to have. Western medicine offers medications that can sometimes bring relief, but these meds often have unpleasant side effects. There is no known cure for interstitial cystitis.
The Solution
Acupuncture interstitial cystitis treatments dramatically reduce the symptoms of IC. It reduced the pain and burning sensations, reduces the frequency and urgency, and reduces the flares associated with the condition.
As with many chronic conditions, interstitial cystitis often gets worse in waves, called flares. During a flare, symptoms will get much more intense. Flares tend to be triggered by increased stress, either emotion or physical. Acupuncture acts to reduce the frequency, duration and intensity of flares.
Interstitial Cystitis Treatment – How It Works
When you come to acupuncture with interstitial cystitis or the symptoms common to that diagnosis, we ask you a number of questions about your condition, review lab reports and discuss any medications you may be taking. We then create a Chinese medicine diagnosis for your condition.
Interestingly, each IC patient we treat has a unique Chinese medicine diagnoses. Your specific diagnosis is based on the particular symptoms YOU have versus someone else with the same Western medical diagnosis.
The Treatment
Once a diagnosis is determined, we create a treatment plan. This is our strategy for bringing your body back into balance. When balance is restored, your IC symptoms will be reduced. With chronic conditions like interstitial cystitis we don’t “cure” the condition, but we can dramatically minimize its effect on you. This will often feel like a cure.
What To Expect
The needles we use are hair thin, sterile and single-use. You will hardly feel them. In fact, your treatments will be relaxing. Many of our patients fall asleep during their sessions. Afterwards you will feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
