Migraines Resolved With Acupuncture

February 20, 2017 By Jinmei Joy MAX Xu

Migraines resolved with acupuncture. Here’s the deal. Acupuncture treats at the root level, so we stop migraines from coming in the first place. Most doctors treat migraines from a pain management perspective, prescribing pain medication to mask the pain. Our goal is more ambitious – identify the internal triggers, disarming them, and resolve migraines for good.

Sounds Nice – How Do You Do It?

In Chinese medicine there are 20 different types of headaches, 20 unique internal imbalances that trigger head pain. We’re not talking about frontal headaches versus headaches in the temples or behind the eyes. The different types of headaches reflect different problems at the organ level.

The first thing we do when you come to the office is to identify the imbalances responsible for YOUR type of headache. Most patients have more than one imbalance responsible for their headaches or migraines.

Correct Diagnosis Is Key

We ask you a series of questions about everything from the type of pain you have, the times you typically have the pain, your eating habits, digestion, bowel function and sleep patterns. This information is critical to understanding what makes you tick and what is causing your migraines.

We also feel your pulse. The pulse in Chinese medicine is used much differently than Western medicine. There are about two dozen pulse qualities, developed over thousands of years that help us understand what’s going on internally with your health.

The information we gather from feeling your pulse is critical in making an accurate diagnosis of your imbalances.

Finally we will look at your tongue. Tongue diagnosis is as important to a good Chinese medicine diagnosis as is the pulse. I will devote a blog post to both pulse and tongue diagnosis in the near future.

Address The Root Issue

Once we have collected all of this information about you we will able to determine the underlying root imbalances responsible for your headaches or migraines. We then create a treatment plan of acupuncture points that are designed to correct the imbalances you have. Now you are ready for treatment.

What To Expect

Headache treatments, like all acupuncture treatments, are very relaxing. The needles have a sedating quality and many of our patients fall asleep during treatment. All needles are sterile, single use and hair thin. After treatment you will feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

It typically takes six to twelve treatments to break the cycle of recurring migraines. However, you will start feeling the benefits of the treatments well before you are completely healed. In other words, within just a few treatments you will know that the treatments are working.

Next Steps

If you’re tired of getting headaches or migraines, come in for acupuncture. Learn about the imbalances that are responsible for your headaches and how they can be healed.
