Take Charge of Your Own Health

August 22, 2018 By Jinmei Joy MAX Xu

As you know health care system is broken. We need to get ourselves back in the driver’s seat for our own health. What do we need to take charge of your own health? Here are some pointers:

Prevention

Take care of health before you get sick. Preventing sickness is a superior way of taking care of one’s health. In the history of Chinese medicine, the most revered Chinese doctors are the ones whose on-going patients did not get sick. Of course these patients all practiced what their Chinese doctors recommended they do at home regarding: daily activities, sleep, eating, relationships, etc.

Family History

Know your parents’, grandparents’ and close blood related family members’ health history. If any of them have major health issues like heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, joint replacement, etc. you need to take precaution for preventing these diseases.

Exercise

Exercise at least 3 times per week. Vary the type of exercise: cardio, strength training, balance exercise, endurance training, flexibility exercises, etc.

Nutrition

Eat balanced meals. If you do not have food allergies, you should be eating all types of foods produced in nature instead of in the factory. 🙂 Eat from the farm and not from the factory.

Sleep

Go to bed before 10:30 p.m. Our sleep quality is best if we fall asleep before 11:00p.m. If we stay up past 11:00 p.m. the major organs are not being rejuvenated correctly.

Computer Breaks

Take regular breaks from doing anything at the computer. Ideally for every 45 minutes of computer work, take a 10 min break. (Oh, go crazy, take that whole 15 min to make it even 🙂

Movement

Move! When in doubt, move. Learn from little kids, who never move just straight forward and are never in a hurry. Move sideways, move backwards, swing your arms, dangle your feet… you get the idea.

Express Yourself

Laugh often. Cry freely. Punch your pillow if you are frustrated. Sing in your shower, car, home.

Avoid Negativity

Avoid negative people and situations as much as possible. If you have to engage in this type of circumstance, for every negative comment you hear, replace it with 5 positive ones you pre-wrote in your journal.

Be Curious

Be curious, and never stop learning new things everyday.
