This message was posted in 2009 from a man in China talking about his experience with acupuncture and vocal cord paralysis. We treat this condition in our practice with great success. I post his message because it is so moving and encouraging. I’ve left the grammar just the way he wrote it.

“My English name is Peter. I am from China, working in Shanghai City.
I got the vocal cord paralysis for ten years. It is one of the most difficult and complicated diseases. The symptom is that you can not speak as loud and fluent as normal people, and the worst situation is that you can not speak even a word.
As far as I know, the Western medicine nearly has nothing to do with it, and the only way is operation, which can only improve pronunciation but can not cure it completely. And the traditional Chinese medicine also has no assurance of recovery. Last year, I learned from the internet that Meishan People’s Hospital (established and maintained by the government and it is the Traditional Chinese Medicine) in Meishan City in Sichuan province can make it, so I went there and stayed for some time.
During the period, I was amazed at those patients, who were from all corners of China and were once sentenced no hope by the local hospitals. With acupuncture therapy, they made so much progress here, and some patients who had been ill less than one year nearly all recovered basically in ten or thirty days, and the vocal cord paralysis can move as normal. At the time, the complement of the Traditional Chinese medicine and the Western medicine was so impressive that I came up with the idea to build a bridge helping this kind of patients in Western countries.
The vocal cord paralysis can occur after neck or throat surgery, cold, fright and so on, and the probability is rather high. So I feel it is worth doing it. By the way, the acupuncture therapy is very cheap with eighty yuan per day, amounting to ten dollar per day.
Vocal cord paralysis is nothing. Timely treatment and confidence can defeat it entirely.

Vocal Cord Paralysis Improved With Acupuncture
In our experience, vocal cord paralysis can be improved in a majority of cases with timely treatment of acupuncture. Treatment helps the local area heal, improves blood and Qi circulation, and helps the patient regain vocal cord function.
If you have suffered vocal cord injury or paralysis, try acupuncture. There are no negative side effects.
