A 38-year-old woman came to our clinic complaining of severe calf pain. She was a Thai massage therapist who used her legs and feet to massage patients. Overuse caused her calves to cramp up constantly. Today’s blog post describes the acupuncture calf pain solution and how it resolved our patient’s troubles.
Calf Pain Is No Joke
In the scheme of things, calf pain does not seem so bad. Not when there are migraine headaches, chronic low back pain, and neck pain afflicting millions of people every year. But any pain, when it’s your own, is a big deal, especially when it is constant. Chronic pain makes it almost impossible to have a good quality of life, taxing your brain and body all day long.
Our patient’s calf pain arose from overuse. Thai massage involves using the feet to massage the client’s back. The constant repetition of these movements caused her legs and calves to tighten to the point of pain. No amount of stretching would resolve the issue. Massage from a co-worker also was not able to ease the pain. We treated her in the past for a bout of low back pain, so she gave us a call to see if acupuncture could help.
Acupuncture Calf Pain Solution
Our treatment strategy included three distinct steps. First, we released the tight calf muscles. Specific acupuncture points, including BL57 and BL58, directly release tight muscles in the calf. Second, we opened the channels running through the leg and calf. The Bladder and Gall Bladder channels have the most impact on calf function, and we used a combination of acupuncture points on these channels to increase Qi circulation in her legs. These points included: BL36, Bl37, BL40, BL57, BL60, GB31, GB34, and GB39.
Finally, we boosted our patient’s Qi and Blood circulation throughout her entire body. All healing depends on good circulation, and acupuncture treatment for pain always includes points to increase Qi and Blood circulation. Since we were treating her face down, we utilized the following back points to improve circulation: BL17, BL18, and BL20.
Calf Pain Resolved With Acupuncture
In just three treatments, acupuncture resolved our patient’s calf pain for good. She was able to work again without pain, and her calves stayed limber and pain-free. She stretched after treating clients, and this was sufficient to maintain her calf health. The acupuncture calf pain solution had restored normal muscle and channel function in her legs. Once accomplished, she was able to maintain that state with regular stretching.
