It seems like everyone is anxious these days. Of course, there are ample reasons for being stressed out – Covid, job insecurity, inflation, tensions with family, friends, and neighbors over mandates, school boards, and politics. But, for times like these, we need things in our lives to help us rejuvenate. Acupuncture soothes anxiety powerfully – many prefer it to medications. It calms the mind and quiets a restless heart, allowing you to find your center and remember what’s important in life. Here are three recent anxiety cases where acupuncture made a big difference in our patients’ lives.
Vaccine Mandate Job Insecurity
A patient came for acupuncture a few months ago suffering from severe anxiety. She was a nurse working for a big hospital in the area. The hospital had recently imposed a vaccine mandate to take effect the following month – no jab, no job.
Our patient did not want to get the vaccine – she was young and healthy and wanted to wait a bit longer to see the long-term effects of the jab. But she could not afford to lose her job, and she knew that any new job in another hospital would likely have a similar mandate. As a result of this no-win situation, she was highly anxious.
We treated her for anxiety and stress, using a combination of acupuncture points to nourish her heart and calm her spirit. We also focused on helping improve her sleep quality, which had suffered over the last few weeks due to her emotional strain. As a result, after just two treatments, she felt significantly calmer – more like her usual self – and was able to move forward with her life.
This case is a perfect example of how acupuncture soothes anxiety. We could not change our patient’s situation, and she still had to make a difficult choice, but the acupuncture allowed her to make those decisions with a clear mind and a quiet heart.
Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
A few years ago, a young man in his early thirties came to our clinic suffering from anxiety about ending a relationship. The breakup had been particularly nasty, and it had shaken him. His stirred-up emotions triggered anxiety with heart palpitations and chest tightness. In addition, the condition was affecting his sleep – he fell asleep fine but woke up between 1:00 am and 3:00 am, unable to fall back to sleep for hours.
Our acupuncture treatment focused on nourishing his heart. In Chinese medicine, anxiety is a heart condition, where the “heart” is a combination of our Western anatomical heart and our energetic, spiritual heart. Thus, activating heart acupuncture points reduce physical heart conditions like palpitations and chest tightness and spiritual/emotional heart conditions like anxiety or a broken heart.
Our patient was healthy, and as a result, he responded quickly to the acupuncture treatments. The breakup had caused a slight imbalance with his heart qi, one that acupuncture could easily correct. Within three treatments, he was sleeping through the night and no longer felt anxious. He had no palpitations or chest tightness and felt like himself again. Acupuncture soothes anxiety whether the imbalance is slight or severe.
Moving To Assisted Living
A woman in her eighties came to our clinic with insomnia triggered by anxiety – it took hours for her to fall asleep each night. She had just moved from her home of fifty years to an assisted living community, and the transition triggered severe anxiety. The lack of sleep added to her problems as she was feeling tired and disoriented as well.
Acupuncture uses the body’s healing capacity, redirecting energy resources to restore balance. We suggested our patient come for six visits, once a week, and then assess her progress. We knew it would probably take longer for her to improve, given her advanced age. She agreed, and we began treatment, selecting points in her treatment to nourish her heart and strengthen her digestive system. As we age, our stomach does not process foods as efficiently – leading to fatigue.
Our patient responded well – after her first three treatments, she felt calmer at night and fell asleep after an hour instead of three hours. Following her sixth treatment, she fell asleep in just thirty minutes, and her entire outlook improved. She was beginning to feel optimistic about her new living situation and started getting to know her new neighbors. Acupuncture soothes anxiety no matter what your age or stage.

Acupuncture Soothes Anxiety
No matter what the trigger, acupuncture soothes anxiety. That’s because it nourishes the heart. The Chinese developed acupuncture thousands of years ago, but their understanding of health is just as relevant today as it was back then. At Raleigh Acupuncture, we practice this ancient art blended with modern safety and evidence-based medicine.
Ease Panic Attacks With Acupuncture
Nourishing the heart not only reduces anxiety but also relieves heart palpitations, chest tightness, and panic attacks. In addition, anxiety tends to escalate at night before bed, so acupuncture also helps relieve insomnia and promote good sleep.
What our Clients are Saying
Acupuncture really helped my anxiety. I highly recommend Raleigh Acupuncture. Very professional, reasonably priced and focused on getting me better quickly. Thank you!
I came in for acupuncture highly skeptical that it would be able to help me. I’m an A-type personality and very wired. I feel like I’ve been anxious my entire life. My wife must have been secretly researching treatments for anxiety because last month she announced that I WOULD be trying acupuncture! She did well picking the practice, as the doctors at Acupuncture Associates were top notch. They explained how acupuncture worked to deal with anxiety and then set about doing it. Well, I wouldn’t be writing this letter if it didn’t work. So you know the outcome. Highly satisfactory! I’m still an A-type guy, but with a fraction of the anxiety. The feelings of dread that were constantly lingering around me are gone. In it’s place I feel a sense of peacefulness, albeit a wired peacefulness.
Ever since we moved to Raleigh I was feeling a great deal more anxiety. It was probably a combination of factors including the stress of the move, looking for work and possibly the weather. My chest would get uncomfortably tight and my heart would race throughout the day. I had taken medications in the past but didn’t want that again. Research on the web led me to Raleigh Acupuncture. They treated me for anxiety and after just one treatment I could feel the difference. I got 9 treatments and am completely better. I will continue coming because it makes me feel so good. I highly suggest acupuncture with them for the treatment of anxiety. It’s much more effective than medications.
I was feeling depressed and stressed because I didn’t like my job and didn’t know what to do with my life. I started taking Lexipro but it really affected my libido so I stopped taking it. I tried acupuncture because my husband said it helped him when he was depressed years earlier (before he met me!) I went to Raleigh Acupuncture and started treatments. They were really knowledgeable about Chinese medicine and explained how the body gets stuck in depression, and how the acupuncture gets the body unstuck. They really listened to me and helped me figure stuff out. I started feeling less depressed. Then I actually started getting more clear about what I wanted to do with my life career-wise. I decided to go back to school and now I’m almost done with my degree. I haven’t felt depressed at all since I was treated and I’m really excited about my life. I’m very grateful to them for being such great healers and such a great support to me when I really needed it.
I’ve had generalized anxiety for years and had been managing it fairly well. But then I lost my job and the anxiety really escalated. I started getting panic attacks every day and dreaded even getting in my car to drive. My sister suggested that I try acupuncture, so I did. I went to Raleigh Acupuncture and explained my situation. They said they treated this condition all the time with excellent results. I was stressed about money too, but they had reasonable fees. They treated me with acupuncture and herbs for the next two months. I know it helped, because my unemployment situation didn’t change but I stopped having panic attacks. Even my regular anxiety decreased – significantly. It’s like my whole body relaxed and things didn’t make me anxious as easily.
