Acupuncture is the best carpal tunnel surgery alternative. Over the last 16 years, we have prevented dozens of wrist surgeries by resolving carpal tunnel syndrome with acupuncture. If you’re headed for surgery, you owe it to yourself to seek less invasive alternatives first. The fact that managed care doesn’t require this is mind-boggling.
Carpal Tunnel Surgery Statistics
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) reports that carpal tunnel surgery is the second most common surgery in America, with over 230,000 procedures performed annually. Sadly, only 23% of patients who undergo surgery can return to their previous professions. The U.S. Department of Labor dubbed carpal tunnel syndrome the “chief occupational hazard” in America.
Carpal Tunnel Surgery Alternative
We have been treating carpal tunnel syndrome at Raleigh Acupuncture for the past 16 years. During this time, we’ve honed a highly effective protocol that consistently delivers superior outcomes. In most cases, acupuncture resolves carpal pain without the need for surgery.
What Causes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
The Mayo Clinic website states, “Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway surrounded by bones and ligaments on the palm side of your hand. When the median nerve is compressed, the symptoms can include numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand and arm.”
Surgery cuts open the carpal tunnel, easing pressure off the median nerve. It’s a typical Western medicine approach – if it’s not working, cut it out. In some cases of entrenched pain, this procedure is merited. However, it should not be the first line of treatment. Alternative treatments, especially those found to be effective, should always be tried first. Acupuncture is one such treatment.
How Does Acupuncture Treat Carpal Tunnel?
Blocked Qi is the cause of most pain in the body. Qi is the energy that flows through our bodies. Qi travels through channels (also called meridians). When the channel becomes blocked, through trauma, overuse, or disease, pain ensues. Such is the case with carpal tunnel. Overuse causes Qi stagnation in the Pericardium channel of the arm and hand.
The treatment strategy for this condition involves opening the blocked Pericardium channel by inserting sterile, single-use, hair-thin needles in acupuncture points along the meridian. Needling these points reopens blocked meridians and trains them to stay open. Four to six treatments are all that are necessary to resolve most cases.

What our Clients are Saying
I’m a massage therapist and never had a problem with wrist or hand pain until last year. My whole hand (right worse than left) starting throbbing and going numb with searing pain through the wrist, thumb and pointer finger. It was waking me several nights a week and interfering with my work. I started getting treated at Raleigh Acupuncture. It has dramatically reduced my pain, to the point where I can work and am not waking up at night. I think the nature of my work puts alot of strain on my wrists, but I’m not ready to give up my profession. I’ll need regular acupuncture for this, but I don’t mind. It’s the only thing that’s helped.
I’m a computer programmer and have been sitting at a desk working a mouse for years. It finally caught up with me a few months ago. I developed a terrible pain in my wrist that made my whole hand go numb, especially at night. The acupuncturist said the condition was easy to treat. My friend had surgery for the same thing. I figured I might as well try a few treatments. That’s all it took. The pain went away and hasn’t returned. Thank you Raleigh Acupuncture!
Raleigh Acupuncture cured my carpal tunnel syndrome for good! This has been plaguing me for years, waking me at night. My hands would go numb and shooting pains would go up my arms. I was nervous about the treatments beforehand, but they babied me! It wasn’t bad at all. Anyway, the pain is gone, gone, gone! I’m hooked on acupuncture now.
