We are living in unusual times. The Coronavirus has turned our lives upside down. It’s a strange kind of crisis. On the one hand we can walk outside in our neighborhood and go to the park without fear. But we can’t send our kids to school or go to a movie without the risk of getting sick. And the sickness itself is a mystery. It is harmless to most, but deadly to many. Today’s blog post is our Raleigh Acupuncture Coronavirus update.
We have decided to keep our acupuncture clinic OPEN, for as long as they let us. In order to do so, we need to keep the clinic safe for our patients and our staff.
Addressing Safety Concerns
Our acupuncture clinic is small. We typically have two to four patients in our office at any one time, so you won’t run into big crowds. We will not treat any patients who have shown signs of having a cold, flu, sniffles, cough, runny nose or shortness of breath during the past week. It’s no fun for us to turn away patients, but it is essential in order to keep everyone safe.
We treat many senior citizens. Also, we treat patients undergoing chemotherapy as part of their cancer treatment. So it is essential that our clinic stay germ-free. In addition to screening patients for cold and flu symptoms before treating them, we are also using clorox wipes to wipe down door handles and other surfaces in the office throughout the day, and alcohol to clean face cradles and arm rests after each treatment.
Please do your part when you come in for a treatment. Use elbows to open doors and turn on the bathroom light switch. Wash your hands when you first arrive at the office. If you need to sneeze, please use a tissue, then wash your hands again. If you are sneezing due to allergies, please cancel your appointment. The reason is that we won’t be able to know whether the sneezes are from allergies or virus. At this time, none of us can take the chance.
Before You Come
Raleigh Acupuncture Coronavirus update. Please do not come for acupuncture if you’ve been sick within the past 7 days. Also, stay home for 7 days if you have recently travelled on an airplane. If someone in your family is sick with a cold or flu, don’t come for acupuncture. Wait two weeks until everyone is healthy again. These rules are inconvenient, but they will help slow the spread of the Coronavirus and will spare the high-risk groups (seniors and immune compromised).
Mask or No Mask
If you see the acupuncturists wearing protective masks, it’s not because we are sick. If we get sick we will stay home. It is because we are trying to limit our exposure to the virus. We have not started wearing them, but we might. They are very hard to come by. And right now the hospital staff need them much more than we do in our small clinic. The CDC says that the public does not need to wear masks unless they are sick, so you don’t need to wear one at your appointment. But you can if you want to.
Working Together Through The Crisis
We will get through this crisis – together. Let’s all step up, do the right thing, care for one another, and be patient with one another. We will not be overcome with fear and despair. Instead, we will work together through this pandemic and overcome it.
