What Causes Nausea?
The two most common causes of nausea today are pregnancy and chemotherapy. Acupuncture works great for women suffering from morning sickness. Likewise, people undergoing chemo infusions find relief from their nausea with acupuncture.
Unfortunately, there are many other causes of nausea. Luckily, they typically respond well to acupuncture. While the triggers may differ, the root causes of nausea are similar. They involve stomach disharmony. And acupuncture excels at harmonizing the stomach no matter what the trigger.
Acupuncture Relieves Nausea
The Raleigh Acupuncture nausea treatment has a powerful effect on restoring stomach function. In Chinese medicine, we describe nausea as rebellious stomach Qi. The sensation of nausea is triggered when stomach energy rises instead of descends.
A healthy stomach has natural descending energy. As a result, food is digested and sent down to the intestines and colon. But external factors can disrupt this process. For example, a newly pregnant woman’s stomach senses the young fetus developing below. As a result, the stomach diverts its energy upward to protect the growing baby, triggering nausea. Acupuncture harmonizes the stomach and allows it to “adjust” to its new neighbor below, resolving nausea.
Likewise, chemotherapy disrupts stomach function by its very nature. This essential drug for fighting cancer taxes the stomach, disrupting its usual descending energy. Rebellion results in severe nausea. Acupuncture heals the stomach from the damage caused by the medicine, allowing it to descend once again. This action resolves nausea.
Many patients have nausea for other reasons. In each case, we assess the cause and treat it accordingly. Treatment always involves strengthening the stomach and reestablishing its descending function.

Recent Nausea Case
A mom brought her 10-year-old daughter to our clinic. She had been experiencing severe nausea every day for the past three months. In addition, she had stomach pain, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping. We determined her pattern diagnosis to be rebellious stomach qi and liver qi stagnation.
Children respond well to acupuncture, getting good results with few treatments. This case was no exception. Our patient’s treatment consisted of the acupoints PC6, LI11, CV14, CV12, and LV3. It took just three sessions to resolve her nausea completely. Furthermore, her sleep improved, and her anxiety reduced. A six-month follow-up revealed that nausea never returned.

What our Clients are Saying
My first pregnancy went so easy. So I was surprised when I got so nauseous with my second one. Every smell made me sick and I didn’t want to eat anything. My mom found Raleigh Acupuncture. The practitioner told me it generally took 3 to 6 treatments to stop the nausea. She was right. After 6 treatments I wasn’t nauseous anymore and could eat again without trouble. I’m very pleased and would recommend them to any pregnant woman suffering from nausea.
When I was pregnant 6 weeks I got terrible nausea and vomiting. I could not hold anything down. I started losing weight after two weeks and my doctor put me on medications. But I was still vomiting every day and felt awful. I found Raleigh Acupuncture and they treated me three times. It totally stopped the nausea and vomiting. I stopped my medications, and the rest of my pregnancy had no problems. They said this was an easy thing to treat. I wish I had known about it from the beginning of my pregnancy.
I came back from a trip to the Caribbean with a terrible case of vertigo and nausea. I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t work, couldn’t walk straight. I had this throbbing headache all day long. It was driving me crazy. I tried acupuncture and in three sessions was completely cured! I was so impressed that I had them treat my back pain next. I only wish insurance covered the treatments.
