Shoulder Pain is Stubborn
Shoulder pain is one of the most stubborn pains in the body. It is notoriously hard to treat and slow to heal, a pain prone to becoming chronic. That’s because the shoulder is a complex joint controlled by intricately connected muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Acupuncture Relieves Shoulder Pain
Acupuncture identifies and treats the injured joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments responsible for shoulder pain. For example, treating an injured muscle with acupuncture promotes healing by increasing blood circulation. And if one of the rotator cuff muscles is in spasm (deltoid, trapezius, rhomboid, pectoral, teres minor), releasing it with acupuncture brings almost instant relief.
Likewise, inflamed tendons and ligaments are “cooled” by strategically placing acupuncture needles in and around them. The needles send a message to the body to increase blood circulation in and around the injured tissue, drawing off heat and promoting healing.
Finally, acupuncture heals the shoulder joint in cases of frozen shoulder. Powerful shoulder points, both local (near the shoulder) and distal (far from the shoulder), stimulate healing within the joints, resolving adhesive capsulitis that would otherwise require surgery.
Blocked Channels and Pain
In addition to the issues mentioned above, blocked channels can also trigger pain in the shoulder. Channels are pathways that run up and down the body, through the arms, legs, and torso. Six distinct channels intersect the shoulders – pain results when Qi (the body’s internal energy) gets stuck in any of them. Acupuncture restores normal Qi flow, enabling faster and deeper healing.
Combining Acupuncture & Western Medicine
The Raleigh Acupuncture shoulder pain treatment incorporates both Eastern and Western approaches simultaneously.
–Releases motor points to relieve muscles in spasm.
–Opens blocked channels to restore proper energy flow.
–Releases nerve impingement to reduce pain.
–Clears inflammation and reduces swelling.
–Increases blood circulation to nourish the muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Acupuncture brings deep, comprehensive healing to the shoulder.
Your First Acupuncture Treatment
When you arrive at our clinic, we will examine your shoulder, assess all aspects of your pain, identify areas of limited range of motion, and track the places where your pain radiates. For example, shoulder injuries often trigger pain down the arms, hands, and fingers. Likewise, pain can radiate up the shoulder, neck, and head. We will then create a treatment plan and begin treatment.
Recent Frozen Shoulder Case
A woman came to our clinic complaining of severe pain in both her shoulders and limited range of motion – she could not move her arms above her head or behind her back. This condition had been worsening over the past two years.
The Raleigh Acupuncture shoulder pain treatment has a three-pronged strategy for addressing pain with frozen shoulder. First, we treated the tight muscles around both shoulders with electroacupuncture. This therapy loosened her rotator cuff area’s tendons, ligaments, and muscles. Next, we needled influential points on her legs while asking her to extend her arms beyond her limited range of motion. To her surprise, she was able to lift her arms above her head and behind her back for the first time in two years.
Finally, we applied suction cups around both shoulders to improve blood circulation around the injured area. All three therapies work together to reduce shoulder pain and heal adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder). After the first treatment, she experienced 50 percent less pain and 80 percent more mobility. During the week between her first and second treatment, she practiced moving her arms beyond their limited range, reinforcing the work we had accomplished. We repeated this unique shoulder pain treatment for five subsequent sessions until she reached complete recovery.

After shoulder surgery following a car accident, my shoulder was always stiff and achy. PT helped, but I suffered every day from shoulder pain. I went to Raleigh Acupuncture and they really helped. I did four treatments and my shoulder pain was completely gone.
I’m a golfer and started having trouble with my left shoulder over a year ago. My doctor wanted to do surgery, but I wanted to try other alternatives first. So I tried acupuncture. The folks at Raleigh Acupuncture were very professional, reasonably priced and did excellent work. They resolved my shoulder pain completely. I use them now for other pains in my post-50 body! Thank you Raleigh Acupuncture.
