What Is Lyme Disease?
Lyme disease originates from a tick bite, causing fever, headache and fatigue. Symptoms may include joint pain and swelling, severe headaches, neck stiffness and heart palpitations. This condition often turns chronic with symptoms similar to lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome.
Acupuncture Improves Lyme Disease
Acupuncture can make a big difference for people with Lyme disease. We approach the treatment of Lyme by identifying the internal imbalances responsible for your symptoms. When you come for treatment, we conduct an intake and ask questions about your health. In addition, we examine your tongue and feel your pulse.
Armed with this information, we identify your Chinese medicine pattern diagnosis – the map pointing to the problems. For example, Lyme patients often have Spleen qi deficiency, a pattern imbalance causing poor digestion, which leads to debilitating fatigue. Acupuncture points ST36, SP4, and BL20 strengthen the Spleen qi, boosting the stomach’s ability to digest food. The result is more energy and less lethargy.
Next, we create a treatment plan to correct the imbalances responsible for your condition. It’s not about “curing” Lyme disease. Lyme is just a catch-all name for a group of persistent symptoms. Western medicine does not have a treatment for curing chronic Lyme, nor does it have an effective way to manage it. However, Chinese medicine DOES have a way to reduce the symptoms – by addressing the pattern imbalances.
What To Expect
Acupuncture is completely safe. All needles are sterile, single-use, and hair-thin. Points are activated on the body’s surface to influence internal organ function. There are no adverse side effects. The treatments are relaxing – many of our patients fall asleep during their sessions. Afterward, you feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
Recent Chronic Lyme Case
A 27-year-old woman came to our clinic having been diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease five years earlier. She was unable to work due to debilitating fatigue, brain fog, poor concentration, and pain in her joints and muscles. No Western medical treatment had been able to help her, but she did find some relief working with functional medicine doctors who prescribed supplements. However, her daily quality of life was still low, and she sought out acupuncture to see if it could help.
After conducting an intake exam, we determined her Chinese pattern diagnosis to be Spleen qi deficiency with dampness accumulation in the joints. We created a treatment plan and began treating her once a week. After four sessions, we evaluated her progress. Pain levels had decreased by about 20 percent, while energy and mental acuity levels also improved. She was encouraged by this outcome and decided to continue treatment every other week.
Two months later, our patient felt 50 percent better across the boards, which was the most significant improvement she had experienced since the onset of Lymes five years earlier. Since then, she has come in for maintenance treatments once a month to help sustain the benefits. Acupuncture did not cure her Lyme disease but significantly improved the quality of her life.

What our Clients are Saying
I still am forever in your debt for helping me through the Lymes recovery. My body pain and fatigue were overwhelming before getting acupuncture. I still tell everyone today that I am 100% positive that my recovery was a direct result of your expert care. Truly. I have very little residual effects from the disease that I can easily live with. So again, thank you not only for your amazing skills, but for the compassion and kindness that you showed me during that time.
