A 47-year-old man came to our office complaining of stomach pain for the past three months. He had bloating after every mean, no matter what he ate. It lasted for hours, with frequent trips to the bathroom, urgency, discomfort and pain. This stomach pain acupuncture case study describes how Raleigh Acupuncture resolved his pain for good in six treatments.
Stomach Pain Is Everywhere
It’s not something people talk about, but stomach pain and indigestion are very common. Sometimes they are brought on by stress, other times by food allergies or other underlying conditions. Whatever the trigger, acupuncture is up to the challenge. When patients come to our clinic presenting with stomach pain, we first conduct an intake exam. We ask them all about their condition.
We then ask them lots of questions about their overall health – things like sleep, breathing, pain, bowel function, mood, and whether they run hot or cold. Finally, we take a close look at their tongue and feel their pulse. We’re not just counting how many beats per minute. We feel the quality of their pulse. In Chinese medicine, there are 36 different qualities to the pulse, which help us assess the person’s internal health.
From all of this gathered information we are able to derive a pattern diagnosis, a root cause for their stomach pain. We then design a treatment plan to correct the imbalance responsible for that root imbalance, the idea being that once the underlying imbalance is addressed, the symptom (stomach pain) will resolve itself. And in fact, over 90 percent of the time, that is exactly what happens.
Stomach Pain Acupuncture Case Study
Our patient’s tongue had a thick white coat and his pulse was slippery. This indicated that he had accumulated dampness in his digestive system. We recommended some dietary changes, which he agreed to make. They included cutting out his morning smoothies. While smoothies contain healthy foods, their cold, raw nature was not easy for him to digest. Instead, we suggested he eat warm, cooked foods like oatmeal and stewed fruits for breakfast.
His acupuncture treatment consisted of points to strengthen his Spleen Qi and rid dampness, including ST36, SP9, SP3, CV12, CV10, CV6 and ST21. We also prescribed a Chinese herbal formula called Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi, which is famous for strengthening Spleen Qi and ridding dampness.
Improved Results Within Weeks
Within the first two weeks our patient started feeling significantly better (treatments were once a week). After the third treatment his self assessment put him at 50 percent better. And after his sixth treatment he was 100 percent healed. A six month follow up revealed that he was still fine, with no return of any stomach pain. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs had corrected his root imbalance and restored his health.
How Does Acupuncture Work?
We get this question a lot. How can needles with no medicine on them, and all-natural pills made from herbs correct imbalances in the body to heal pain – for good? No one knows the answer for sure. What we do know is that acupuncture has been around for thousands of years helping people overcome pain and disease safely and naturally. At Raleigh Acupuncture we have been helping our patients for over 15 years, experiencing the process first hand. It is our privilege to share it with you.

What our Clients are Saying
Thanks Mark for helping me to get rid of my gastritis! With you help and dedication I’m feeling so much better. Recommended!
My husband Arthur and I have used Raleigh Acupuncture bi-weekly for at least 4 years, for a variety of treatments, including general well-being. Both of us felt our ailments healed with the treatment. I initially visited for Irritable Bowel Syndrome – and had immediate relief… the practitioners are very professional and learned, and we have every confidence in them. Even though we pay out of pocket, we obviously feel that the acupuncture is worth it. We both highly recommend Raleigh Acupuncture – you won’t regret it!
I have always had a nervous stomach. Some people get headaches, I get stomach aches. It’s always worse with stress and eases up on the weekends when I can relax. I did not think of getting treatment until I stumbled on an article saying how acupuncture was excellent for treating stomach pain. I went to Raleigh Acupuncture and described my condition. They explained why my stomach hurt. It totally made sense to me. It’s all about internal balance. So they went to work on me to get my stomach balanced. And I’m pleased to say that it worked. I no longer have a nervous stomach and stomach pain, even in stressful situations. I’ve made some changes to my diet, based on their recommendations, and took chinese herbs for a while, but don’t need to take them now. I’m convinced that I would have lived with stomach pain for the rest of my life had it not been for acupuncture.
I’m totally afraid of needles, but my wife convinced me to try acupuncture for my IBS. It was really hampering my life. I’d have to go to the bathroom 5 times before leaving for work. Then at work I’d be sitting in a meeting and all of a sudden have to go again. Any type of stress set me off. At first they could only use 2 needles, that’s all I would let them do. But after a few treatments I started relaxing and felt more comfortable with the needles. The effect has been amazing. I’m so much better now. Mornings are easy, no problems at work. It’s hard to believe, because I’ve had this for my entire adult life. Now I just go in for maintenance and have some herbs I take when I need them. Raleigh Acupuncture is a great outfit.
