A 54-year-old woman came to our clinic complaining of chronic dizziness. She also had nausea, headaches, and night sweats. This dizziness acupuncture case study describes how we resolved her dizziness and relieved her other symptoms simultaneously.
Disabling Daily Dizziness
Living with daily dizziness makes life extremely difficult. It’s hard to focus, concentrate, and get around. Work suffers, driving is challenging, and general tasks of daily living become overwhelming.
Our patient developed dizziness three years earlier, unclear about why it developed. She was a high ranking police officer and had a tremendous amount of responsibilities. She woke up with dizziness, and it lasted all day. By the afternoon, a mild headache came on, accompanied by nausea. At night she had sweats. The condition exhausted her, and she needed relief.
Dizziness Acupuncture Case Study
On her first visit, we conducted a Chinese medicine intake exam. The examination involved asking her questions about her dizziness and questions about her digestion, sleep, bowel function, and emotions. Then we felt her pulse and looked at her tongue. All of this information helped us determine her Chinese medicine pattern diagnosis – the root cause of her dizziness.
In our patient’s case, dizziness was caused by Spleen Qi deficiency with dampness, and accompanying Kidney yin deficiency. Spleen deficiency is a common cause of dizziness, while kidney yin deficiency is often responsible for night sweats. We created an acupuncture treatment plan to correct these two imbalances.
Acupuncture points for Spleen deficiency included ST36, SP3, CV12, CV21, and BL20. Yin nourishing points include KD3, KD6, SP6, and BL23. We used these points, along with others, to bring our patient into balance. We also prescribed a Chinese herbal formula called Xiang sha liu jun zi pian to strengthen her Spleen qi and rid dampness. Not all patients will receive the same treatment as our patient in this dizziness acupuncture case study. Each patient has a slightly different presentation. But this is a good example of a common approach to resolving dizziness.
Patient Progress
After three treatments (once a week), our patient’s dizziness was reduced by 50%. She was amazed at how much better she was feeling. After three more treatments, she was 90% better. At this point, she stopped treatment. A month later, she came in for a tune-up. Our treatment resolved her dizziness and night sweats!
Next Steps
The treatment in this dizziness acupuncture case study was simple. Our patient’s Spleen deficiency was easily correctable, and once corrected, her health sustained itself. In other words, restoring balance sustained her health.

Vertigo Resolved
This dizziness acupuncture case study is an excellent example of how acupuncture restores balance. Vertigo is similar to dizziness and responds equally well to acupuncture treatment.
What our Clients are Saying
I came back from a trip to the Caribbean with a terrible case of vertigo and nausea. I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t work, couldn’t walk straight. I had this throbbing headache all day long. It was driving me crazy. I tried acupuncture and in three sessions was completely cured! I was so impressed that I had them treat my back pain next. I only wish insurance covered the treatments.
I was diagnosed with dizziness and put on a medicine that made me more dizzy! My chiropractor said it was from my neck, but the adjustments didn’t help. So I tried acupuncture. Every time I bent down I would get so dizzy that I fell over. The doctor at Raleigh Acupuncture didn’t treat my neck. He said he was treating my organs to balance them and correct my water levels. I don’t care what he called it – it stopped my dizziness! I can bend over now without dizziness and can function like a normal person. They also got rid of my toe pain at the same time!
I had vertigo and dizziness for years. I run my own small business and it was starting to really affect my work. I had difficulty driving, and was starting to get nervous about getting into an accident at work. My vertigo was like the room spinning around, and the only way to make it stop was to close my eyes and lie down. I was also burning up hot, but never had a fever. My cousin went to Raleigh Acupuncture so I gave it a try. They treated me with little needles and gave me chinese herbs. I’m not kidding, this stuff really works. My vertigo stopped happening for the first time in years, and I even stopped feeling so hot. I get small bouts of vertigo now and then, but usually just a single treatment gets me better. I also understand why I get vertigo and what I can do to prevent it coming on. They were really good explaining how it worked, in a way that totally makes sense to me. Thank you Raleigh Acupuncture.
