Vertigo Acupuncture Case Report

Vertigo Acupuncture Case Report

This vertigo acupuncture case report describes our patient John, a 40-year-old construction supervisor, who experienced debilitating vertigo six months after recovering from a severe case of Covid-19. His condition, which impacted his daily life and work, presented with symptoms of dizziness, nausea, fatigue, headache, unclear thinking and an unsteady gait. Despite consulting three different doctors, John found no relief from the vertigo that plagued him. His search for a solution seemed futile until his cousin suggested he try acupuncture at our clinic.

What Is Vertigo?

Vertigo is a sensation of spinning or dizziness that can severely affect balance and stability, often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, sweating, and difficulty walking. While vertigo can result from various factors, including inner ear issues and migraines, it can also be a consequence of post-viral conditions like Long Covid. Long Covid includes a range of persistent symptoms that linger after the acute phase of the illness has resolved. One of these symptoms is vertigo, likely due to the virus’s impact on the vestibular system or neurological pathways. This vertigo acupuncture case report takes a closer look at this condition.

Acupuncture Resolves Vertigo

Upon John’s first visit to our clinic, we conducted a thorough assessment using the principles of Chinese medicine. We diagnosed his vertigo as being primarily due to Spleen Qi deficiency and phlegm accumulation in the head. In Chinese medicine, Spleen Qi deficiency often results from overwork and poor diet, leading to the body’s inability to properly transform and transport fluids, causing them to accumulate and form phlegm. However, in John’s case, his Spleen Qi deficiency was due to the lingering effects of the Covid virus. This phlegm can obstruct the clear yang from ascending to the head, manifesting as dizziness and vertigo.

To address John’s condition, we utilized a specific set of acupuncture points known for their effectiveness in treating vertigo and restoring balance to the body’s energy. The points selected were ST36 (Zusanli) to strengthen the Spleen and Stomach, ST40 (Fenglong) to transform phlegm, PC6 (Neiguan) and SP4 (Gongsun) for their role in regulating the stomach and calming the mind, GB20 (Fengchi) to clear wind and benefit the head, GB2 (Tinghui) to benefit the ears and treat dizziness, GV20 (Baihui) to raise yang and calm the spirit, LV3 (Taichong) to regulate liver qi, and LI4 (Hegu) to promote circulation and relieve headaches. Additionally, we provided John with a custom Chinese herbal formula designed to transform phlegm and support his overall recovery.

Vertigo Acupuncture Case Report

Initially, John was skeptical about acupuncture and its potential benefits. However, after just a few sessions, he began to notice significant improvements in his condition. The frequency and intensity of his vertigo episodes decreased, and he started feeling more stable and confident in his movements. By the sixth session, John reported that all of his vertigo symptoms had completely resolved.

The effectiveness of acupuncture in treating John’s vertigo highlights its value as a safe and side-effect-free alternative to conventional treatments. Unlike many medications that come with a risk of adverse effects, acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s natural healing processes and restoring balance to the body’s energy systems. For John, this holistic approach not only alleviated his symptoms but also enhanced his overall well-being.

Conclusion

Over the past few years, we have seen many conditions due to Long Covid. These include chronic fatigue, anxiety, vertigo, and chronic pain in various parts of the body (migraines, stomach pain, back pain). Most of these conditions were triggered by the autoimmune imbalance brought on by Long Covid. Acupuncture is extremely effective at treating most autoimmune diseases.

This vertigo acupuncture case report documents John’s journey from debilitating vertigo to complete recovery. In addition, it exemplifies how Chinese medicine can provide relief where conventional methods may fall short, offering a path to healing that is both effective and gentle.

What our Clients are Saying

I came back from a trip to the Caribbean with a terrible case of vertigo and nausea.  I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t work, couldn’t walk straight.  I had this throbbing headache all day long.  It was driving me crazy.  I tried acupuncture and in three sessions was completely cured!  I was so impressed that I had them treat my back pain next.  I only wish insurance covered the treatments.

I was diagnosed with dizziness and put on a medicine that made me more dizzy!  My chiropractor said it was from my neck, but the adjustments didn’t help.  So I tried acupuncture.  Every time I bent down I would get so dizzy that I fell over.  The doctor at Raleigh Acupuncture didn’t treat my neck.  He said he was treating my organs to balance them and correct my water levels.  I don’t care what he called it – it stopped my dizziness!  I can bend over now without dizziness and can function like a normal person.  They also got rid of my toe pain at the same time!

I had vertigo and dizziness for years.  I run my own small business and it was starting to really affect my work.  I had difficulty driving, and was starting to get nervous about getting into an accident at work.  My vertigo was like the room spinning around, and the only way to make it stop was to close my eyes and lie down.  I was also burning up hot, but never had a fever.  My cousin went to Raleigh Acupuncture so I gave it a try.  They treated me with little needles and gave me chinese herbs.  I’m not kidding, this stuff really works.  My vertigo stopped happening for the first time in years, and I even stopped feeling so hot.  I get small bouts of vertigo now and then, but usually just a single treatment gets me better. I also understand why I get vertigo and what I can do to prevent it coming on.  They were really good explaining how it worked, in a way that totally makes sense to me.  Thank you Raleigh Acupuncture.
